The Pokémon Trading Card Game (TCG) is a strategic and collectible card game where players assemble decks of Pokémon, Trainer, and Energy cards to compete against one another. Launched in 1996 alongside the global success of the Pokémon video games, the TCG has become a cultural phenomenon, with an ever-expanding library of cards, competitive tournaments, and a passionate community of players and collectors.

At the heart of the game are Pokémon cards, which depict creatures from the Pokémon universe. Each Pokémon card features essential stats like hit points (HP), abilities, and moves that reflect its unique powers. These Pokémon are divided into stages: Basic, Stage 1, and Stage 2. Basic Pokémon can be played directly, while Stage 1 and Stage 2 Pokémon evolve from the cards before them, mirroring the video game evolution system.

To fuel attacks and abilities, Energy cards are attached to Pokémon. There are several types of Energy, including Grass, Fire, Water, Lightning, and more, aligning with the Pokémon's elemental types. Players must strategically manage their Energy cards to maximize their Pokémon's potential in battle.

Trainer cards provide players with additional tactical tools. These cards are divided into categories like Supporters, which offer powerful one-time effects; Items, which can be played without restrictions; and Stadiums, which alter the game environment for both players. Using Trainer cards wisely is crucial for gaining an edge over an opponent.

A typical game involves each player drawing seven cards from their deck, selecting a Basic Pokémon to place in the Active Spot, and then taking turns. Players aim to knock out their opponent’s Pokémon by reducing their HP to zero, earning a Prize card for each knockout. The goal is to collect six Prize cards before the opponent, or to defeat all of the opponent’s Pokémon.
