Captain Marvel (Kree name Mar-Vell) (Earth alias Walter Lawson) is a fictional character appearing in American books published by Marvel. Created by writer-editor Stan Lee and designed by artist Gene Colan, the character first appeared in Marvel Super-Heroes #12 (December 1967). He is the first character to use the moniker Captain Marvel, in the Marvel Universe. Mar-Vell is a white-skinned minority of the blue-skinned Kree empire, but despite discrimination and prejudice, Mar-Vell became a renowned soldier and an acclaimed hero for his victories in battle against the Kree's enemies, notably the Skrulls.
