Who is Connor Bedard?

Connor Bedard, born on July 17, 2005, in North Vancouver, British Columbia, is a Canadian professional ice hockey centre for the Chicago Blackhawks of the National Hockey League (NHL). Recognized as a generational talent, he was selected first overall by the Blackhawks in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft. 

Before joining the NHL, Bedard made history in junior hockey as the first player to be granted exceptional status in the Western Hockey League (WHL), allowing him to begin his major junior career at 15. He was selected first overall by the Regina Pats in the 2020 WHL Bantam Draft. During his tenure with the Pats, Bedard led the league in scoring and earned numerous accolades, including the Bob Clarke Trophy as the WHL's leading scorer and the Four Broncos Memorial Trophy as the league's most valuable player. 

Internationally, Bedard has been a standout for Team Canada. He played pivotal roles in securing gold medals at the IIHF World Junior Championships in 2022 and 2023. His performance in the 2023 tournament was particularly remarkable, setting several national and international scoring records and earning him the Most Valuable Player award. 

In his rookie NHL season (2023-2024), Bedard led all rookies and the Blackhawks in goals (22), assists (39), and points (61), despite missing 14 games due to a broken jaw. His outstanding performance earned him the Calder Memorial Trophy as the league's rookie of the year.
